Ahoy there! My name is Spencer. I created Spencer's Desk for two main reasons:
I've always been a tinkerer. When I was young, I frequently made leprechaun traps out of popsicle sticks and hot glue (never did catch one...). When my family would go to the beach, I'd spend all day building sandcastles and trying to fortify them against the tide.
In high school, I got my first car, a Jeep Wrangler. I spent countless hours in the driveway learning how to work on it. My proudest accomplishment was building a new center console out of MDF, foam, and fabric. It had storage compartments, electronics, and integrated beautifully into the car.
Back in my junior year in college, I got my first 3D printer: an AnyCubic Vyper FDM printer. It wasn't long before I began modding the printer with cable chains and the Hero Me gen5 cooling system. As I became more comfortable with 3D printing, I began designing enclosures for DIY guitar pedals!
In my first year of graduate school, I became obsessed with trying to 3D print models from RuneScape, a game I was, and still am, very fond of. I found myself getting deeper into 3D modeling and expanded my fleet to include my first resin 3D printer. With that printer, I was able to start a, albeit small, successful business, printing and selling figurines from the game.
After that business was established and required much less attention, I found myself back to tinkering with my FDM printer. I made my first YouTube video about modding my printhead on my Vyper. After a few mods, I began questioning the utility of the decisions I was making in the world of 3D printing.
Those questions led me to publish a few successful videos on input shaper, part cooling, and linear rails. This gave my channel direction. These days, I hope to continue making videos exploring topics in the world of 3D printing with the hope to expand to other topics including design, electronics, and other related things.
I grew up in a military family eventually settling in North Carolina. I studied Physics and Mathematics at East Carolina University where I discovered the world of medical physics. I went on to earn my Master's Degree at Duke University in Medical Physics, specializing in therapeutic physics. I matched at a residency where I will finish up my professional training in radiation oncology. When I'm not working or creating content, I run a small 3D printing Etsy shop. I love learning about economics and finances, playing piano/guitar, singing, exercising, and learning to make fresh foods.
